As a nurse I always suggest to my patients that they take the injection as it will work faster. When I am sick I always get shots.

I suggest people get the shot as it works faster. Sometimes the PO meds make you sick to your stomach. If they are young I will almost always give them a shot as i know they have been treated.

If I had the option of a shot or suppository, I would defer to the caregiver's experience and knowledge about me and my present condition that brought me there. If given a choice, and I could, again I would defer to the caregiver and seek their suggestion. But if I had to decide, I'd probably opt for the shot, as I agree with other posters, the shots work quicker.

Any particular reason for the M or F/Age question? Do you think it has a bearing on whether it's a shot given or suppository administered?

Me: M, well past my 40s.

The question on age and gender was do to a conversion with my wife . She is so afraid of getting a shot . She has asked it comes in a suppository it doesn't embarrass her to be giving a suppository it's painless .. To me I want the shot . Just wondering if it had anything to do with it . I'm 43 she's 38

Now I would always ask for the shot. I actually was given a choice years ago when I was almost 12 years old. I had gone back to doc for him to drain this abcess the second time and I had become nauseated. The week before I had vomited when he lanced it and he had the nurse give me a shot of Phenergan. It really hurt and besides that I had received several penicillin shots the weeks prior. When the doc told the nurse again to get me a Phenergan shot I looked at my dad and he told the doc that my butt was pretty sore from all the shots already. The doc immediate told the nurse to get me a suppository. I was naked on table anyway except for small covering over my privates but it was still embarrassing.
