With the engine switched off it reads 1100 rpm. It also appears to have 'moods'. At times it seems to work ok, but at other times it shows a reduced rpm when in fact the engine speed has clearly increased. I have found that the problem has been much better since I changed my regulator which packed up last year. Aside from any obvious checks like wiring and contacts, it might be an idea to check your alternator output at various RPMs. I lashed up my multimeter so i could read it throughout a flight. Voltages varied widely and were a precurser to regulator failure. You can also perform a resistance check by using the multimeter directly on the lighting coils. Not all Tacho's are wired via the lighting coils in the engine, so that's worth a look as well. Lighting coils have been known to fail on the 582. If this is the case, the problem will often migrate to the ignition coils in time. It seems, especially where the engine has been running hot, the shellac insulation on the coil windings starts to break down leading to small progressive shorts across the windings, and eventually will cause total failure. A new Ducati stator from Rotax will cost a fortune, but if yours is failing, I know a source of more reasonably priced items. Of course, it may be simply that your Tacho is faulty. Good luck with your investigations and let us know what you find. Regards Rob [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
