I guess best flap settings might vary with engine type and prop type/pitch. My Rotax 582 engine has a warp prop that is set as coarse as I'm comfortable with - rpm occasionally drops a bit from 6000rpm static once airborne.

I use 1 stage flap for take-off and then retract it a couple of seconds after lift off. Where possible I stay low until airspeed builds to around 60kts.

I haven't noticed anything different on the odd occasion when I have forgotten to apply flap - other than finding its already off when I try to retract it.

I guess that the more flap used on take off, or leaving it down longer might increase the risk of the 582 engine bogging down. Perhaps on a calm evening I'll have a play to find best settings for shortest roll, obstacle clearance etc. But input on shortest roll/obstacle clearance from other Pulsar owners would be appreciated.

Happy New year to All

Bob
