His dad, Alan Thicke (who died at 69 on December 16, 2016), hosted the CBS broadcast of the1988 Miss Universe pageant when it was held at Lin Kou Arena in Taoyuan, Taipei, Taiwan, ROC when Courtney Gibbs of Texas competed as Miss USA (top ten) and lost to Miss Thailand, Porntip (Bui Simon) Nakhirunkanok who also won Best National Costume.http://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=BmDiOVmguIs.
