Is scheduled to be held on June 9, concurrently with New Hampshire.

Miss has 8 contestants and what a surprise Teen has only 2 contestants. The state has getting smaller and smaller in the past 35-40 years I think.

Girls,

DO NOT COMPETE at your local, state, or national Miss USA or Miss America pageants. Things are not okay in either organization. It is common knowledge that state EDs will NOT stand up to national organization leaders. Therefore, it is up to the contestants to NOT compete until things are made right in both organizations. Do not compete. Do not raise money. Do not pay money. Do not sign contracts of any kind with any organization.

Ask yourself why Grace didn’t thank Robin at all in her farewell speech. Coincidence? I think not.

"Flying down to Lakeland....F.L.A. with Miss USA!!"

That was the opening theme song that CBS viewers heard when the live telecast of the Miss USA pageant aired exactly 40 years ago tonight, on Thursday, May 17, 1984, broadcasted from Lakeland, Florida. It was the second time that the central Florida city hosted a nationally televised pageant, after the first-ever Miss Teen-USA pageant was staged there at the Lakeland Civic Center, which also hosted the third and final pageant, the 1985 Miss USA pageant.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_USA_1984
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41vKOfAad8Q

At that time, the 1984 Miss USA pageant saw the most former Miss America contestants compete together for the same crown, three, which coincidentally and amazingly, all three were the top three finalists in the pageant.

Miss USA 1984:
Mai Therese Shanley of New Mexico (Miss New Mexico 1983)

1st Runner-up:
Kelly Lea Anderson of West Virginia (Miss West Virginia 1982)

2nd Runner-up:
Desiree Denise Daniels of Tennessee (Miss Tennessee 1982/first runner-up to Miss America 1983)

Of course, during that time, Vanessa Williams was the reigning Miss America 1984, and two months later, Suzette Charles assumed the Miss America title after Vanessa resigned on July 23, 1984. Suzette and Vanessa had competed with Mai during the 1983 Miss America pageant. All three (who came from three "New" states (New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York) would end-up with national pageant titles in 1984.

Moments after the 1984 Miss USA pageant, Mai (who is half Irish and half Taiwanese) was asked about her victory and she showed the gaggle media reporters a tiny four-leaf clover that was sewn into her white evening gown, saying "Ah, the luck of the Irish."

NOTE: Mai was able to compete and win the 1984 Miss New Mexico-USA pageant in February 1984 in Las Cruses (which she obviously won), because she concluded her Miss New Mexico (America) reign three months earlier when that state Miss America pageant was held those years in November.

Sadly, it was shortly after the 1984 Miss USA pageant that Miss Montana-USA 1984, Kristi Lynn Boyce Ogren, was killed in a vehicle accident in western Montana along with her father Erick Ogren on July 14, 1984, just five days after the 1984 Miss Universe pageant was held when Mai Shanely was a top ten semi-finalist.

Kristi's modest grave-stone has a photo of her as Miss Montana-USA 1984 wearing her prized state pageant crown. As of now, unless anyone can identify any others, Kristi is the only Miss USA contestant from 1984 to pass away.
http://www.findagrave.com/memorial/84565522/kristi-lynn-ogren

But 1984 had a great and entertaining Miss USA pageant telecast, complete with outgoing Miss USA 1983, Julie Lyne Hayek surrounded with oranges in a swimming pool, and the 53 contestants (from the 50 states, D.C., Miss Teen-USA 1983 and Miss Teen-USA 1984) "Puttin' On the Ritz" with famed dancers Tommy Tune and Twiggy. Tommy would return to dance with Miss USA contestants in 1986 and 1989.

First of all, kudos to missamericacommunications@gmail.com for providing copies of the actual checks that paid the old Miss America Organization’s debts off. This is the smoking gun y’all. The payoffs were all from the Palm Beach Polo Inc. Here is a list of the emails and checks that were provided to me as evidence:

1. Email on 1/11/23 from Robin to Craig T. Galle and Glenn Straub. Her email asks them to pay off the SBA loan for $521,219.73. She signs the email as “Robin Ross Fleming, American Icon LLC.”

2. Receipt on 1/13/23 of the SBA loan payoff in the amount of $521,219.73. The receipt was sent to kfialco@palmbeachpolo.com from the email address notification@pay.gov.

3. Cleared check on 3/23/23 from Palm Beach Polo LLC to the Miss America Competition LLC for $50,000.

4. Cleared check on 10/12/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc to Manteau Downes LLC for $16,909.20.

5. Cleared check on 10/6/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc to Miss America IP LLC for $15,000.

6. Another Cleared check on 10/6/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc. to Miss America IP for $10,000.

7. Cleared check on 3/9/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc. to Brent Adams for $50,000.

8. Cleared check on 3/6/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc. to Cooper Levenson PA for $5,000. (Note this expense was “law firm expenses to move the pageant to Atlantic City).

9. Cleared Check on 3/9/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc. to Avalanche! Spots Inc for $6,500.

10. Cleared check on 3/9/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc to Daniel Chase Development Inc for $1,000. (Note this expense was “Construction Expense for MA”.

11. Cleared check on 1/24/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc to American Express for $22,754.74.

12. Cleared check on 1/24/23 from Palm Beach Polo Inc. to American Express for $59,572.17,

All 10 checks were signed by Glenn Straub.

I have been a fan of pageantry since the early 1970's. This culminated with winning my state title in the Miss USA system during the mid 1980's.

Listening to this nonsense about sexual harassment is infuriating. NO ONE should be in a situation where they feel uncomfortable. NO ONE should be told what they did wrong in a scary sexual situation. Believe me, I learned many lessons that night. I was a 21-year-old in a night club.

Any young person (male or female), who feels uncomfortable in a sexual situation, has every right to do what is in their best interests.

This is 2024, sexual harassment is first and foremost in the news. People of today have no excuse when they make unacceptable advances. We are educated over and over in the media on what is acceptable today. Shame on those who still think it is ok to behave in this matter. Even worse, are those who excuse such behavior.

Take it from someone who knows, some people (male and female) do not know the meaning of the word "no." I only pray that what I went through does not happen to you. Sadly, my experience was minor compared to others. It breaks my heart knowing what scared me and caused me to go through counseling, was even worse for those who did not have a friend come to their aid.

For these reasons, I say goodbye to this board. When this board learns empathy (and I pray you do not learn it the hard way), I may come back.

The resignations of Miss USA and Miss Teen USA

Just some notes and things of interest to make you question and wonder following their resignations:

— There has been no public address or statement from Laylah Rose, she's acting like business as usual.

— The media outlets are pulling the same nuggets from the resignation letter of Miss USA: "A toxic workplace" and "being sexually harassed at a Christmas parade." There is way more in that 5-page letter than those two things

— The Miss USA Organization has continued to issue the same statement to all media outlets about a place of inclusiveness, blah, blah blah

— Granted, the mothers did media interviews, but all they've done is answer the same three questions each time.

— How is the new Miss USA going to be treated following her official crowning in Hawaii.. Is she going to be treated like a queen and given the royal treatment, where Noelia allegedly wasn't

Some things just make you wonder... If it would've been me, I would have hired a public relations firm to handle organizing a press conference, media kit, media availability or something. Now apparently the CW is reevaluating its relationship with the organization.

It quite literally makes no sense you have woman raising money for a foundation that has active concerns of embezzlement. If anyone had an integrity they would chill on this fundraising until this mess is sorted out.

Also a huge shame to all the directors who haven’t had conversations with their titleholders about these active allegations

Greetings everyone.

I wanted to get feedback about your opinion about my pageant bsckground the situation I am in.
I am a pre-op transgender woman. I have done trans pageants for a few years now both in America, Thailand and a virtual, international one. Now, I would like to move into mainstream pageantry.

The main problem is my final gender reassignmemt surgery is scheduled for late 2025.

That is why, I woild like to compete in a local and then state pageant this year.

I am very strong in interview and monologue, and I will use monologue as my talent. I do volunteering at "Children of the Night," in my area. They try to make sure to protect underpriviledged children from being victims of crimes related to sexual abuse. I am 26, that is also why I am time limited, stars are simply alligned for me to compete this year.

But I am afraid about swimsuit, how would I be able to hide my private parts to an extent that they are not noticeable. I am not Muslim, but is competing in a burkini at option... or would it be too "out there" for a local or state MAO?

I am from a Southern, competitive state, and I come across polished and feminine. I do not do any antics that some transgender contestants do in mainstream pageants, such as throwing sarong in the air, etc. I am just afraid than burkini would be just too much. No amount of duck tape would work even in a conservative one piece swimsuit. By the way, how have African American and/or Cherokee women done in Southern states in recent years. I am aware the situation improved in that department as well, but as a racialized, transgender contestant, I do not know to what extent, has situation improved.

Also, in case if I do not win the state title, are trans women allowed to compete at Miss World USA or should I hide that fact to organizers?

I know there is no swimsuit portion at Miss World USA and Miss World, thus it would also be a pageant to consider for me. Correct me if I'm wrong. Do you think a transgender winner could actually be an advantage for Julia Morley or her milieu? I have a few ideas for "Beauty with a Purpose."

Big thanks for your feedback.

I've been involved in pageantry for a very long time. I've seen it all. Recently, I have seen the worse display of a lack of transparency for all 3 systems. I'm beginning to think pageants have seen their best days in the rearview mirror, and that perhaps the time has come to pack it all up.

Rules have been changed. How many times has the judging criteria changed? As far as Miss America is concerned, nothing has been the same since the elimination of the swimsuit competition, and the emergence of Gretchen Carlson rearing her ugly head. Boy, am I glad that one is gone from the program. The damage though was done, and if this program is to continue, we need transparency and a whole lot more.

Miss USA/Universe is a disaster. Their pageants are always beautifully staged, and the contestants are magnificent. I do feel though that the age range, unmarried being allowed to participate, and mothers too have created a pageant that has become a joke. Once again, transparency is key.

I'm afraid that all 3 major pageants are imploding, and perhaps the end is near.

"By publicly asserting this position, we aim to provide clarity and reassurance to all stakeholders regarding the organization's leadership structure."

Oh Shantel, all you've done is muddy the waters.

This letter provides no clarity because it has no receipts to prove your claims.

And, we are not reassured whatsoever. Seriously, nobody trusts anything you or the former board say. You've damaged your reputation to where your word means nothing. Remember how you promised us for TWO YRS the 100th would be fabulous??

Today’s Zoom with Glenn and team was very informative. For 40 minutes they laid out their legal argument and answered questions. I learned a lot from the call, specifically about contract law.

The bottom line is that Glenn and his team of people are no joke when it comes to taking over the pageant. Today convinced me that they are truly in this to take control of the pageant and invest in it for the long haul. I honestly do not believe this is being done to destroy the pageant. Sure, it’s probably vindictive on some level against Robin, but as a whole they are in my opinion not out to destroy Miss America.

I found the new President/CEO to be very kind. She complimented Robin on a great pageant last summer, and indicated that Robin had her side of the story, Glenn has his, and she respects both sides fighting it out in court. She seemed especially concerned about the contestants and wants it to be “business as usual” with Robin until a later point of the courts side with Glenn.

Glenn went into a lot about contract law. He says he and his company were brought in at the very beginning to buy Miss America because the national organization was out of money and wasn’t going to be able to hold their Dec 22 pageant in Connecticut. He said Miss America is one of his smaller companies, and has all the paperwork to show his ownership. He alluded to the sale like buying a car. Robin had taken out a line of credit to buy the car, but she wasn’t the real owner because she didn’t own the title. Those weren’t his exact words, but something to that effect.

I’m convinced more than ever that Glenn owns the pageant. He wants to get it back on television and revive sponsorships. He also indicated that next year they will be partnering with Disney and not Universal Studios.

He feels like the case could go to court any day now, and thinks it can all be resolved in one day in court. Robin’s attorneys were finally served.

One big question that the states kept asking was who was paying Robin’s legal fees. There seems to be a lot of concern over how she is footing the bill for her attorneys.

He said he does feel he will have to deal with the Miss America Foundation’s 1.6 million lawsuit, but that the first lawsuit to handle is the one against Robin about ownership.

He said this is 100% a contractual dispute, and feels very confident he will win.

I like Glenn and team. I see a bright future with them honestly.

Codi Miller has just won Miss North Dakota USA after six tries and is making history:

She is the first woman reached the age of 30 to win the Miss pageant.
She is the eighty-first Bahamas era Teen to win the Miss title overall.
She is the 13th 2009 Teen to win the Miss title.
She has become the longest tenured Teen to Miss titleholder -- fifteen years apart, surpassed Marie-Lynn Piscitelli's previous record (11 years).

You may submit questions in advance by emailing them to:

Something from last year’s Miss Universe and the crop of winners being crowned.

What are your thoughts on crowning winners for the sake of diversity? The best example from last year would be Miss Nepal. I appreciate the body positivity message, but if we are being honest, she would not have even been on that stage twenty years ago. I had both Colombia and Guatemala in my twenty - only Colombia advanced - but both were married with children. I also had Portugal in my twenty and had no idea she was transgendered. I guess my point is that even though I had some of these on my list, I also wonder if maybe they advanced only in the name of the pageant trying to be relevant.

I do understand the owners selecting some of the semi-finalists. This is a business and I was curious to see if those contestants would advance. People may tune in to see these contestants compete. Even my non-pageant fans knew of Nepal last year. I don’t have a problem with the pageant advancing some contestants in the name of ratings so long as that is transparent.

Here, though, is where I may have a problem. When a director, whether local, state or national crowns a winner based upon those diverse categories, and that is not disclosed up front. As an example, I judged a state pageant once and our instructions were to “choose a winner with national pageant experience.” Exactly one contestant me that criteria. The other 24 contestants paid hefty entry fees to fund that contestant’s crowning, basically. Recently, a winner with a disability was crowned. I am not saying that contestant could not or did not win on her own. However, I would have an issue with that winner if she won because of the disability if I was a contestants who spent thousands of dollars to compete and I definitely would not return to compete. I feel the director should be completely transparent if they are looking for a specific type of contestant before entry fees are paid. If they are upfront about exactly what they are looking for before contestants pay the entry fee, no problem. Let the buyer beware. But if contestants pay their fees, the director should not sway the judging process at all. The judges should choose the strongest candidate.

Thoughts?

Savannah Marʻi Gankiewicz of Hawaii only just accepted the offer to be Miss USA 2024 (for a mere three months) yesterday, Thursday, and already they have her listed with a color photo on this Miss USA titleholders through the years (1952--2023) website page:
http://wwd.com/lists/miss-usa-winners-history-through-the-years-1235841234/miss-usa-2023/

Any word if Miss New York Teen-USA 2023, Stephanie Skinner of Syracuse, New York who was first runner-up in the 2023 Miss Teen-USA pageant last September in Reno, Nevada will assume the Miss Teen-USA title now that UmaSofia Srivastava resigned on Tuesday?

They should have just kept both titles vacant, and have the current Miss Universe 2023 crown Miss USA and Miss Teen-USA in August--providing Sheynnis Alondra Palacios Cornejo is still Miss Universe 2023.

However, her Miss Nicaragua Universe country director resigned last December:
http://remezcla.com/culture/miss-nicaragua-director-resigns-after-accusations-of-treason-sheynnis-palacios-responds/
http://ticotimes.net/2023/12/12/backlash-forces-miss-nicaragua-owners-resignation-post-victory

They just got a lengthy pageant broadcast contract until 2027 on the American CW cable network, so it is probably best to have someone wearing the Miss USA and Miss Teen-USA banners and crowns for the pageant telecasts--even if the women only had the honor for a brief couple of months. Now if only we could get Harold L. Glasser alive and running the pageants. At least he lived to see half of the Donald Trump-NBC co-ownership years before his death on July 11, 2009.

What happens with the new TV contract they recently signed with the CW? Why are the State Directors so quiet? What about the foreign MU countries contracts. You would think Venezuela's ownership group would say something. So many questions and what if's.
