Subject: Stuck in reverse........

Having a nice day

Today while I was at my friends shop down the street getting one of my boss;s cars inspected I noticed a 325 with no plates on it, a thin bumbered one at that, the trunk had the 325 numbers and an imprint of the two letters I like to see most of all “is” . So I asked Billy what the deal was with the Bimmer over there and he said “you want that thing, take it”, so then I asked him “really, could I have it right now!”. He told me to talk to another friend of mine that just lost his shop and is working at Bill’s shop at the moment, so I walked over and started talking to Charlie, I asked what the deal was and he said that he worked on it (just put a timing belt and tensioner) not too long ago and the other day the owner parked it and when she got back in she could not get it out of reverse, I guess they had all the pros from Bmw look at it and generally everybody was convinced that it needed a transmission, the stick is stuck in one place that’s for sure, its not stuck in the reverse position though, more like netural toward the left part of the gate. The car does only go backwards but the car feels pretty tight, underneath it looks great with the usual drips from the rack but everything is real clean otherwise, even the motor is dry and clean. It does have a tiny bit of rust under the battery but the rest looks very clean and solid. Its black and has all its own original panels/doors ect. Except the right front fender has been replaced and I had to look very closely to see a tiny flaw in the radiator support on that side, it was untouched from the accident (it must have been a minor one). It has all its “is” things; wheels, seats and the like. So I strolled up to Charlie after totally checking the car out and said as nonchalantly as I could CHARLIE, I HAVE to have this car……… to be contunined……….

has anybody ever seen this happen to a five speed? could it possibly be a linkage thing (I kind of thought not)
