It's caused by wheel balance/a flat spot in the wheel. My bottlecraps would do exactly that over 80mph, and it would just get worse and worse as I went faster. The whole car was shaking. It seemed to change with road surfaces, but it was always there. Switched to summer wheels, and then later to the wheels off my parts car, problem solved, smooth as it gets. Now I'm not sure if it's the wheel or the tire yet, because instead of paying for new tires, I just used the wheels off the parts car which had a good amount of tread left, and I'll probably never know because with the fleet of cars, I really have no reason to ever put the e30 on winter wheels again.
