Talents have been interesting. They forgot to turn on the microphone for one singer and now there is a monologue about vaccinating lambs. For real. Lots of monologues

[> Subject: Judging was a little less on the nose tonight. If there was a 3-way tie, I’m shocked MO wasn’t one of them - great body and best performance. Talent is a shocker to me. SC was fine, but she got tons of pretty points. There was nothing remarkable about her skill/ability. It was a bit gimmicky. Nebraska’s talent brought the house down. I really don’t get it.

[> [> [> [> Subject: And that's fine - let her win because she's tops in 3/4 categories. But the categories should be judged without bringing non-relevant considerations to bear. I liked what SC did - she was fun and a good performer. She was not the best talent.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: One misconception about talent is it’s only based on talent. No, it’s not. It’s based on performance and entertainment value. Hence why NE was the most talented on that stage, but playing instruments is naturally harder to have the same entertainment value as a song or dance because it’s more difficult to connect to the audience when you need to watch your fingers. Singers and dancers mostly win in pageantry because the art form is most likely to connect to an audience. Based purely on talent, NE should have won. Adding the performance and entertainment value, it was a toss up between NE, NC, and CO

[> [> [> [> Subject: I find NE to be beautiful - she has a lovely face and there is something calming and pleasant in her demeanor - she's very likable. I had her winning talent and MO winning SS. The winners are all fine choices, but MO had the body and the best overall presentation. You could tell she was living her best life.

[> [> Subject: AZ was my pick for SS. Personally, I felt she had an understated confidence and poise in her walk while other girls felt too desperate or performative. NE and SC were my top two talents and I could’ve seen it going either way. I really hope to see both talents again Saturday!

[> [> [> Subject: Agreed. The judges clearly had a type in mind and it held more to a fierce and sexy vibe which is what I think hurt KY, MA, and MO who were strong, but felt like they had more of a younger or more cute than sexy vibe. But truly this prelim could have gone to almost anyone

[> [> [> [> Subject: I thought MO was a totally different caliber of confidence and look. I don't understand how she would not be in that top 3 much less didn't win. And in talent, NE was clearly the most skilled of the group. CO's opera had the vocal quality but did not match the substantive content/meaning of the song and I thought the winner was kind of frenetic in her presentation. Talent at least was more of a narrow margin -- I found last night's results in fitness to be bizarre.

Did I stutter? Monologues with no passion, singing without being able to hold a note. It’s really looking like these girls all paid to be here because they couldn’t win talent. I laughed out loud watching a girl vaccinate a stuffed animal.

[> [> [> Subject: She is a good singer to be sure, but she did this thing that many pageant talents do. The performance charaterization didn't align with the material. CO's song need a character that was more whimsical and coquettish. CO was more stoic and serious in her delivery and it just felt disconnected to me as a viewer. I'm sure she scored well because she has technique and lovely tone. I had NE winning talent; but can see how SC won based on the performance quality (even if her dance was nothing remarkable).
