Subject: Observations from a has-been…

Former MAO titleholder here with no skin in the game; just some thoughts because I’ve always loved pageants. This was my first time watching the Volunteer pageant and prelims and hoped it would be different than MAO or some of the others. I judged from my couch and was very surprised at the Top 16. Even more surprised at the Top 10 based on some of the “talent.” Had the winner picked from Night 3, so no surprise there.

Some things that are concerning (for all pageants now) include the thinness of these girls and the revealing gowns. Several of the girls tonight were INCREDIBLY thin. I get being in shape because I had to do it too when competing, but it’s really getting out of hand. Some of these girls don’t look healthy AT ALL. New Mexico was my favorite in Fitness/Wellness because she looked shapely, natural, and healthy. The winner tonight looked disturbingly thin to me, but I guess it could’ve been the livestream distorting her physique. These girls employing trainers to fit a certain standard is not what pageantry was intended to promote. And these gowns aren’t even gowns anymore. They just remind me of Fitness/Wellness all over again with some extra fabric. Where is the distinction between the categories? I’m so bored with the hip-high slits and the ultra revealing designs. I was glad to see New York’s gown actually look like an evening gown. Please understand I’m under 30 and am not a modest dresser, but come on y’all. Some of these girls look overly mature and dare I say less-than-elegant just by their gown choices. When are we going back to class, elegance, and natural beauties, the timeless titleholders?

[> Subject: i agree the gowns these days are just ugly/ Contestants are too thin They do not look healthy and it seems that they wear gowns that try to show as much skin as possible and they look cheap and tacky

[> Subject: Commenting on someone being TOO thin is just the same as saying that someone is TOO big. The SIZE has nothing to do with this competition and saying either is what shouldn't be said! Please no comments about weight!
