As a younger child, I always believed an enema was a punishment for some transgression, failure to produce a BM, or for not feeling well or otherwise "out of sorts". Enema time was a challenge for all involved, and I quite often had my butt smacked due to my resistance. The pediatrician was often telling my mom to "just give that kid an enema!"

I suppose the "trauma" associated with the enema process, stayed with me until somewhat later when I felt some positive sensations and outcomes. When mom and grandma finally shared their own experiences, I began to have a different perspective and became cooperative.

I was an adult when I finally realized there were others who engaged in enema use and realized there was some truth behind the healthy aspect. Many even state that their mental health and stress is reduced after a good enema cleanse.
