Kathy, was this in the late 60s ? or?

Yes, getting enemas on top of a table does bring back memories.

I was given bulb syringe enemas on kitchen table until about the same age...around 6 or so. Then got enemas either on the bed or across the lap way.

Got the bulb syringe enema as you told. Given by my mom, aunt or a few times by the older (former nurse) woman who babysat.

Was exactly as you told. She would prepare everything. See her getting the red enema bulb out of the closet. Making pan or large bowl of warm mild soapy water.
The solution was placed on the table. Towel was on the table.

She would close the kitchen blinds... Come and tell me to come with her. The older woman always took me by hand and led me to the kitchen table. Stripped from the waist down. Placed on back on the table... made me nervous seeing the enema bulb being filled up. Hearing the sound it made in the pan of solution.

Then legs held up in the air and given an enema.

It was never painful. Just made tummy feel full. I always would tell "enough". But that always was ignored by the one giving the enema.

If the woman from next door was over she always offered to assist.

I remember a few times when visiting a friend's house a mom was giving a bulb enema on the kitchen table.

This was in the 50s. Was no big deal. Seemed all moms in those days administered enemas.

Now pills and bills have replaced the enema.
