Hi Kathy,

Nice age. Not far behind you. I got the bulb enemas same as you.

Many times I remember seeing her prepare everything for giving an enema. The others were put down to take a nap. The she would give an enema. On the kitchen table most of the time.

Catherine, RN, has a great article on the importance of colon health for the child. Too bad many moms today don't read it. She tells how to give the enema. Her way of telling to prepare a mild soapy water solution with a bar of ivory soap was exactly hot I remember it.

She is correct telling of the reasons the child needs an enema.

Find her article at:

My aunt was a nurse and she was like Catherine.
An enema was always being given by her.

If one of us was not feeling well, and stayed home from school, as soon as the others were out the door to school an enema was given to the one who stayed home.

I also dried out the syringe in the bathroom.
Another mom taught me best way was to put the enema bulb upside down. Between the towel rack and the wall. Nozzle removed. Laying on the counter top.

Was strangely exciting to find the bulb airing out when I came home. Knew an enema was given. But didnt know who got it. She left the enema bulb sitting on the side of the tub. Sometimes on the counter top or on the open window sill.

Next door I could see an enema bulb sitting on the bathroom window sill.
Their mom would leave the red enema bulb sitting on the window sill airing out.

Few times when playing in their backyard she would come to the door and call one of them to come inside. I didn know why...then one day she was calling one to come inside. She was holding the enema bulb.
I heard him complaining...fussing... that he didn't need one.

I knew what he was going to be given.
