Few times I walked into my friends home and her mom was preparing to give an enema or was giving one.

Like you, I found it exciting to know she was going to give, or was giving, an enema. I also loved learning someonewas going to get an enema.

One of my friends mom was a nurse. She helped many in the neighborhood. Bear in mind this was in the late 1950s … to mid 1960s time frame.

Other moms would come to her house. Her mom had a treatment like room set up. Loved seeing what was in it. She had a glass door cabinet. Saw oral and rectal thermometers , towels, oils, soaps, pans, wraps, enema bags and bulbs and more in the cabinet.

The other mom brought her child or children with her. One was taken to the treatment room. The door was left mostly open. Saw her putting the patient on the table. Taking temp. Then seeing her preparing an enema in the connecting bathroom.

Unless she needed the mom to help, the mom waited in the small waiting like area.

Few times another woman would assist her. I always found it exciting knowing she was giving an enema!.

Her assistant was a younger woman. Guess she was like an aide or nursing student.

She would prepare the pan of warm soapy water. Strip the patient. She would hold the one getting the enema legs up in the air or hold bent legs up against the chest. Diapering style position.

After my friends mom gave the enema the assistant would talk to him . Encouraging him to hold it in. Then take him to expel in the connecting bathroom.

I was about 10 or so. So remember this very well.

Most of the ones who were given enemas were boys. Aged from 4 to 9.

It was common that nurses gave home treatments. Sometimes, as with my friends mom, in their homes.
Of course, such is not done these days.
