Clariss dried her feet off the the thick, soft towel she had brought out. Sitting on that rock, with her feet in the water, her ledger on her lap, was her favorite way to spend the afternoon. But now she had written the newest WeyrlingMaster a note, and she had to deliver it to him.
"A'ron, rider of green Mesatith, M'klern, rider of brown Creth. Weyrmates, yet Master and Second."
She continued in this frame of thought while she slipped her sturdy walking shoes on, and worked the leatherbound ledger into the sturdy shoulder bag she had requisitioned from the Tanner at the last Gather she had attended. As she was walking back to the weyr to find greenrider A'ron, she nearly stumbled over a low dune. She corrected herself, but noticed a pair of fire lizards obviously protecting a nest.
"What a lovely pair of mates you are! If my old eyes are lying, you're a brown and a green, I do b'lieve. Could you spare an egg for an old woman?"
Her little people who came in with information and tasks for her to do always had flits flying around them. She had never had a fire lizard- it might be a nice change from the doldrums of old age.
