Organized religion's influence and ambition in political matters, and the threat of theocracy is all too real these days, so we want to know about how these people and/or cults think and operate. A documentary is part of our defense mechanism. What may be coming for our values and ways of life?

This Duggar family may be just one instance of something, but it could be a worthy story to have told. The strange and extreme get the most attention, and we look for where they are flawed and vulnerable to criticism. Regardless of the motive behind telling the story, whatever is true is true.

As a spanking fetishist, I'm interested in how religions promote and practice spanking as discipline because it provides real-world non-consensual situations of authentic punishment. But growing up in a secular household where spanking was the primary method of punishment, I know one need not rely on religion for it. That remains true today.

Even in the "old days," people tended to keep these family matters somewhat private. Here in the USA today, there is even more incentive to hide the fact, and that contributes to the belief that spanking is rare all over the country. It still exists for people of all ages. Many Americans are holding on to tradition and to "old-fashioned" ideas, and often "god" only knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Thank you for responding.
I watched the documentary and what I saw is a long introduction to blame the way of life and upbringing that got the son to abuse his sisters and later other women.
I think it has nothing to do with that, I think it’s in a man.

What suprised me was the fact that spankings where used as the main form of discipline to all ages and that there was no age gap.

I was raised and spanked to a older age, but Iam 48 and even then, it was tabou where I grew up.
Now I see among a lot of people that spankings are given to kids as long as they live at home and even as a young wife.
I always knew that “ Iam to old for a spanking” is noncence.
As long as it hurts, it teaches a lesson and that doesn’t stop at 14.
So seeing the documentary made me realise that there are a lot of people that feel the same way so I was interested.

I object the way they put the blame on someone, and to put the parents of this family away as evil.

If so many stil spank to a older age, there must be some on this forum that could tell, us about it

I hope so because it’s hard enouf believing in spanking when it’s a big tabou like in Europe.
For that I envy the Americans.

Thank you for the links I am going to look at the sites.

Hi Karin; can you tell us about your experiences getting spanked when you were growing up?

While I grew up with spanking and know it still exists in America, I'm not so naive to believe a lot of what is posted on sites like this. If it is wise to be sceptical of documentaries, then one should be even more discerning with what they accept as fact from totally anonymous and unaccountable sources on platforms where fetishists gather to share what is often pure fantasy or wishful thinking.
