 It is interesting that the religious texts that recommend the Rod of Correction are almost all from ancient Jewish Scripture. Yet modern Jewish parents rarely spank. Ms.Ivy is right about this. Doesn't this absence of spanking need an explanation?

Most Jews today are Reform and they tend to emphasize social-justice, compassion and rights. Although there is no strict ban on spanking, they tend to take the approach of modern parenting and see these instructions in the Torah as figurative. Although more likely to spank this attitude caries over into Conservative, and even some Orthodox I believe. Spanking is illegal in Israel.
