This "maintenance spanking" discussion sounds more like people feeding a ritual fetish. As a child I was spanked pretty often but rarely ever got one I didn't deserve. Mom never practiced spankings as a "preventative measure" against things we hadn't even done. No reasonable parent would. That would be roughly akin to being arrested for a crime that hasn't been committed yet. The closest I've ever heard to someone doing this in real life was One of my neighbors when I was growing up. He was a DI in the Army and very strict with his four children. His mother generally dished out spankings if needed during the week and he kept a ledger of his kid's behavior. Whenever they misbehaved, he gave them a demerit. If their mother spanked them they got two demerits. On Sunday after church and Sunday Dinner the kids all had to go to the living room for a family meeting. He would be standing at the front of the room with the ledger and a belt. He would call out their names starting with the youngest. They literally had to stand and say yes sir to him, then he would say how many demerits they had earned during the previous week. If they had earned any he called them over to him, ordered them to strip from the waist down, bend over with feet at shoulder width and grab their ankles. He would give them three licks for each demerit. Then they were ordered to pick up their clothes go sit back on the couch. They had to tell him "Thank you sir" grab their clothes and sit back down. If he called your name and you didn't have any demerits, he would announce that, tell them "Good job" and then they were allowed to sit back down. After all four had had been addressed, they were all allowed to take their clothes, go back to their bedrooms and have time to put their clothing back on and reflect on their behavior for an hour. After the hour was up, he would knock on their doors and they were allowed to carry on with their day. That's the closest I've heard that compared to these "Maintenance Spankings" in this thread. Some of the Smith Family comic strips appeared in "Boy's Life" magazine in the late 60s I remembered seeing in some of them it was a boy getting spankings and some of them were bare bottom.
