Growing up I had a friend who, along with her brother and sister, used to get a switch across the calves of their legs. In the summertime, wearing shorts and dresses, we could all tell if they had been disciplined. It did not embarrass them, it actually made them kind of heroic in our eyes.

I was on vacation and going to the movies with some neighborhood kids and Jan pointed to her friend's legs and said "Look at her switch marks!" We all did look and her friend seemed proud.

I agree with Rebecca on this. I think we admired her and I recall thinking Wow, she really got it good. I wondered what she had done. I could tell that Jan also was impressed.
