Even if you're like way into pain a switching isn't something you want. I've heard that switching should be done on the bare butt and back legs. And switching is usually done in the Spring and Summer when the switches are more flexible and whiplike. I've heard that you can see the marks from a switching for like up to a week. So...... Switching is usually done on bare skin because honestly it's very ineffective over clothing, much like a flyswatter. Switches especially those that are very flexible such as willow switches, can leave terrible welts or even break the skin. I was only switched once as a child by my grandma when I was 8 years old. She made me take off my pants and underwear and then grabbed me by the arm and whipped my bare butt and backs of my thighs. The pain was terrible, I felt like she was ripping the skin off of me with each stroke. She didn't break the skin but I was left with welts that lasted for days. Also, being summer I wasnt wearing a shirt so I was completely naked while she was whipping me and of course standing and moving around I was struck on the lower back just above my butt a couple of times which also hurt terribly. When my mother saw the welts the next day, she and grandma had words and I wasn't allowed to stay over there for quite some time. A switch is a terrible implement to be spanked with. In the summertime, wearing shorts and dresses, we could all tell if they had been disciplined. It did not embarrass them, it actually made them kind of heroic in our eyes. We all did look and her friend seemed proud. I agree with Rebecca on this. I think we admired her and I recall thinking Wow, she really got it good. I wondered what she had done. Frankly, I was horrified by the prospect of having it done to me. My mother and aunt talked about their father using a switch on them when they were little. How he made them undress completely and would "whip the blood out of them". Neither of them believed in using a switch on their children and I'm glad. Ironically, My mom did plant a willow in our back yard and when I was fifteen. I "accidentally" ran over it with our riding mower. When I went in after finishing the yard, Mom asked if I was done mowing and I told her yes, then I apologized and told her I accidentally ran over the willow, she said, "I know" and then said, "Once was an accident, but three times was not." Then she got the belt and came back into the kitchen. I had to pull my pants down and got a really good bare butt spanking for intentionally running over her willow and then lying, calling it an "accident".
