If I had ever thought about not cooperating, that didn't last long, because I knew it would end badly for me. When my brother was fifteen, he had gotten in trouble with the law. Not because he had done anything, but because he was picked up by the police because of what some of his friends were doing. Underage drinking, disorderly conduct and trespass. He was released to dad's custody and later got probation for the trespassing and disorderly conduct and he had not been drinking. When they got home mom was not happy not just because he was arrested but because he wasn't allowed to hang out with those friends because they were trouble makers and he lied about who he was going to be with. So she decided he was going to be spanked and grounded. She got the belt and told him to stand up, pull his pants down and bend over the table. He stood up to her and said he wasn't doing it, she got up in his face and told him he was and he shoved her. Dad flew up out of his chair, grabbed him by the collar and told him, "Boy I don't care how big you think you are, You don't put your hands on your mother. The day you think you are man enough to put your hands on her, I'll take you out side and beat the living hell out of you." "You got that?" My brother started crying and said, "Yes sir." Then dad said, "If your mother tells you pull down your pants and bend over, you'd better damn well pull your pants down and bend over. So drop em." My mom then wore him out with the belt, and he was grounded until court several weeks later. As I mentioned before he was sentenced to probation for six months. One of the kids he was with when he got in trouble came to our house and apologized, He had gotten a year of probation. He talked to my brother in front of my parents and told him, that he didn't need to hang around them anymore. He didn't need to have that kind of a reputation.
So after seeing what happened between my brother and dad when he tried to resist, I decided it was in my best interest to be as cooperative when I got in trouble.
