A bit late to this, but I think girls and boys should be treated differently after a certain age. Girls tend to be more agreeable than boys and do better with a lot of structure, while boys usually need to learn to make their own mistakes. So, it makes sense to spank girls well into their teens or even later. In our church community, girls are still getting bare bottom spankings at home as late as 17 or 18.

I'm a mentor to a teen girl (18) and a girl in her early 20s, and both get spanked and will continue to get spanked over my lap for the foreseeable future.

So far as that 1949 newspaper article some of it I think still holds true today. There is still a double standard where parents are more strict about who their daughters are out with, curfews etc, etc.

My brother years ago definitely had less scrutiny regarding where he was and who he was with and how late he was out etc.

So that part of the article does ring true.

For other types of disciplinary issues though we were treated the same. Anything regarding trouble at school, disrespect, or lying would get us a pants down encounter. And my brother definitely got just as many or more for those type of issues even as an older teen.

With mine I more/less did the same. You just have to be more cautious with a daughter they are in more danger of pregnancy, being taken advantage of etc, etc.

It seemed to me when I was a kid that teenage boys got spanked more than teenage girls. And boys got it worse with paddle, belt and strap. Some girls had strict spanking parents but, as far as I could tell, they were in the minority. One teen girl got punished like the boys in my neighborhood, but her father was a mean old drunk everyone hated.

I don't think many teens get spanked these days. It has always been true that teen girls are much more restricted because of the higher dangers out there for them. There are other kinds of punishments besides spanking. And many parents can't control their daughters anyway.

Spanking teen girls is way more popular than teen boys in fantasy and fiction. Girls at that age are approaching the prime of their evolutionary ability to sexually attract a potential mate. That is why we see so many anonymous posters here claiming they spank their teen daughters and with graphic descriptions of how it is allegedly done. I'd bet money that most of it is not true.
