I often rubbed my butt after being spanked and my kids did the same. It's a normal reaction to try to "rub pain away". From a scientific standpoint, Massage increases blood flow and stimulates the nerves of the area you are rubbing. It feels good and It's also relaxing and even can be stimulating. So yes, in many ways it does help to rub your bottom after a good spanking.

As a child and a teenager I always rubbed my butt like crazy. I would believe this is not uncommon among those who got spanked hard on bare bottom. For those who only got swats I can't imagine they rubbed. For me, it was almost as an instinct, something I did automatically. And yes it did help. As an adult I do rub after a punishment spanking but I believe I could avoid it if I wanted to but I don't want to avoid it. Even better is when my hubby rubs it for me or put lotion on.
You sometimes hear about kids who also dance, jumped around while rubbing after a spanking. I believe I only did this once growing up, when I got spanked with a birch rod. I danced like crazy from the stinging. Otherwise I have "only" rubbed like crazy.
