Frankly anyone in a position of authority encouraging parents to beat their children in the name of the Lord needs to be removed from that position. 'Rod mentality'? Really?
I'm not entirely opposed to giving a child a spanking when deserved. I think there are times when it can be effective and some children respond well to it while others don't.
