In Singapore large canes are used for brutal penal whippings, and smaller canes for the discipline of children at school and home. These canes are sold in convenience stores everywhere. Is it worth it? Well reducing crime, juvenile delinquency and unsightly litter enhances the freedom and quality of life for everyone else. Unfortunately, the anti-spanking ethos is creeping into Singapore. Only boys can now be caned in school. And they say fewer parents are using them. But I have my doubts.
