But they can't spank for just anything. The broad categories are: doing anything that disrespects God, Jesus, the pastor, the church itself. Taking the Lord's name in vain is the obvious example, but being publicly critical of the pastor could also get you spanked. Second would be anything that makes you fall short of being the best person you can be. Like not following your own rules for things like diet or exercise, or being disrespectful to a waitress who might have been slow but was doing her best. The third category is anything that could cause harm to self or others, like getting a speeding ticket. Ephesians 5:22-24 says wives must submit to their own husbands as to the Lord. Hebrews 12:6-16 says the Lord disciplines the one he loves, even though it is painful in the moment, and husbands are emumlate him. Ephesians 6:1-4 says children must obey their parents and honor them, and that fathers must bring up children in discipline (without provoking the children to anger). I'm a little confused by what you said, though. If wives didn't respect or submit to their husbands, or children didn't obey their parents, I would assume a spanking is a possible result. Am I correct? Is that part of the second category of falling "short of being the best person you can be"? If not, is there another category? Also, when you say "spanking" do you mean one swat on the butt while clothed? A bare butt being scorched by a hand or paddle? Is there some typical approach to spanking in your community?
