 Someone mentioned wearing a thong so a girl could retain some modesty, and how silly a thong would look on a boy.

Twice when I was a teenager and knew my stepmom was going to spank me, I put on a jock strap. She went to take it down and I tried to stop her. I said "my butt is already bare. It's not right for you to take that down and expose the rest of me." Needless to say, I lost the argument both times, and got an extra spanking for trying that. She knew I didn't wear a jock strap except for sports, so I obviously put it on for the spanking.

It was always sooo embarrassing.
