Sometimes we would get a notice to take home for parental signing …or worse, a call home to come pick me up at school. Except for a few short rebellious phases, I was usually well-behaved at school, so these terrible circumstances did not occur very often. We were at least somewhat lucky in my family because a paddling at school meant no spanking at home. As normal in such a disciplinary situation, I would be lectured before bedtime, but when there had been swats that day, my behind was checked for bullseyes, and I would be spared a licking on spots that were already very tender. I was really lucky because, if I had a choice, I would always take the paddle over pants at school over dad's spanking stick on the bare at home. The worst case scenario was having to have mom pick me up at school for serious trouble. It happened twice in my life. If I went long enough without a licking, I was stupid enough to forget what the consequences would be if I was caught. Or maybe stupid enough to think I was too old for a spanking. Everyone has probably heard of the cliche statement, "Wait til your father gets home." This was no joke in our house. Those words were like a death sentence where you were not going to die, but it seemed it might be better if you did. The teachers knew it, too, and decided between a stern talking-to at school but only a warning, or actually writing you up, according to whether they thought you needed to be spanked. "Are you going to behave or do you want me to write you up?" was every bit as effective a threat as a paddle hanging on the wall would have been. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

But in the case of the bathbrush waiting for use due to a school issue it was put on the entrance way table for all to see. It did get a number of compliments from my mother's book club that met at the house a day before the punishment was given. Some of the neighborhood women even asked if they could come over and watch the proceedings. One neighbor actually did which kicked up the embarrassment level for my brother by a quantum leap. My dad's strap is never just laying out in the open. So school issues were much more serious. They are here too but the strap still stays in it's place until dad brings it out. That served as a powerful reminder to behave. And we were always spanked naked which as we got older was a great incentive also to behave. Watching my sister get spanked was not enjoyable.
