I was never spanked with a switch growing up, the idea of a switching has always intrigued me.

What makes a good switch? If I was a misbehaving child in your care, what qualities would I be looking for if I was sent to pick my switch?

IMHO, first of all, the switch should be considered a very severe instrument of correction, used for very serious misdeeds, and only with older culprits.

That said, a proper switch would consist of a straight, tender young shoot of hickory, birch, peach tree, apple, forsythia, or willow…about 3 feet long…thick as your little finger at one end, and quiveringly thin at the other….thin, green, and whippy….
