I think it was mostly wanting to stall off the inevitable as long as possible. I also wanted to see how irritated Dad was and how hard he spanked my sister. If the spanking wasn't too bad, I was relieved. If it was really hard, it gave me a few minutes to try to prepare myself. In retrospect, it was probably better to go first. Getting it over with ASAP is a big advantage. Not that it mattered; Dad made the call, so whether we went first or second was out of our control.
