There was a general belief that unless you were spanked hard, it didn't do any good or even work. What do you think? Did you ever get one that wasn't hard and deliberately try to make it "work" anyway? So, you wouldn't get another one that was really hard and guaranteed to work?

And, how hard was hard? Could you feel it two days later?

I'm sure my dad believed that. I tend to believe it too. If a spanking isn't hard enough to make a girl wish she had made a different choice and think twice about making the same choice again, it's probably ineffective. You don't want the naughty girl walking away from the spanking thinking, "that wasn't so bad."

My dad's paddle was relatively thin. It had a lot of sting and little thud. He spanked long and hard. Just how long and how hard varied by our ages, how badly we misbehaved, etc. The paddlings were bare bottom and stung like holy hell. When we got paddled, our promises, pleas, and screeching could be heard throughout the house. The paddle turned our bottoms fiery red and hot and sore for several hours. The next morning, the redness was usually gone, but there was still some tenderness, not unlike a mild sunburn. Within 24-36 hours, the pain completely subsided.

I did think exactly as you mention: Those four left hand hand-spanks weren't all that bad and I was more surprised that they didn't hurt all that much and that it was left-handed!

But, I cried a bit and vowed to myself that I wouldn't say anything like "Ha, ha -- it didn't really hurt that bad!" Rather I would try to make sure he didn't need to do it again anytime soon. So, I think there might be room for mild spankings in some spanking regimens. At least, for kids who are basically in control of their conduct.

Most of my friends never got a lighter spanking and so perhaps neither did Brenda. I suspect that just to get the razor strop to land across a naughty bottom, it has to be the result of a good solid swing. So any spanking with the razor strop is going to be way hard enough to be educational by the usual measure of hard enough to keep the naughty behavior from being "worth it." Brenda, did you ever feel the razor strop but think what you did was worth it?
