Should be an exciting competition - very strong group. Lydia, Hannah, Abby - I believe I counted 3-4 former State OT titleholders. AND, here is a thought, do judges actually pick a NON Sorority girl for Miss UN of AL? It would seem that they really want someone who is very involved with activities at the University, someone who would really promote the University. NOT to say that a non sorority girl couldn't pull it off but.... just a thought!

My guess:
Abby Sosa (phi mu)
Kaylie Bitterman (phi mu)
Hannah Adams she has the best chance (alpha gamma delta)

I think being in a sorority does help your chance of winning simply because it offers more service opportunities

Who is Kaylie Bitterman? What is her talent?
My guess is Abby Sosa or Hannah Adams - being in a sorority is probably a must for the winner. Does anyone know if this will be live streamed?

I think several non-sorority young ladies have won. Rare, but it happens: Isabella POwell (not sure of sorority status)- Was Shannon in a sorority? What about Lee Parker? There have been quite a few that I think there was a judging battle going on? Seems like maybe a #3 got pushed to #1, because of judging battles. Used to know a lot but that was a few years ago.

Nah…since it’s a MAP it’s more about talent and overall stats. Involvement in campus doesn’t make you a contender for the MA title.

Congrats to Marisssa, she is a gorgeous girl. But I want to know how THIRD RUNNER UP to Miss Alabama places lower than a non finalist at Miss Alabama??? No insults to Marissa or Hannah but that is fact. It’s weird to me how a non finalist wins Miss UA but not a runner up to Miss Alabama (top five).... I can’t be the only one surprised at the results

Interesting results. I figured Hannah would win this one hands down, also had Abby Sosa placing 1st. I understand, different judges, different results. But... things that make you go hmmmm. I also understand that as Miss UN of AL she will be involved with much more on campus but so far, I haven't seen Marissa be involved in anything on campus, of course this will change. Guess we wait and see - good luck to her though.

There is no category to judge or score about campus involvement. As Miss University she will be involved throughout the year. My guess is that as a singer she will be called upon a lot to sing on campus. Homecoming is soon so she will be involved with that.

The Miss UA and Miss AU competitions often go to a dark horse (or at least evade the expected results) because the front runners seem to psych themselves out. It’s like they want it too much, and it makes them shaky. Those who don’t expect to win can fly under the radar, give an authentic, no stakes interview and performance, and sometimes edge out the heavy hitters. Melissa will do fine as UA. She is a talented, solid performer and cute girl. I kind of get the vibe that pageants are a means to the career for her more than anything else. I don’t blame her for that. She’s not really on brand as the typical Miss AL winner, but I have no doubt she will continue to make the cut as long as she competes, and deservedly so.

Case in point—the heat Lindsay Gaines Fincher totally flubbed her Miss UA performance and maybe didn’t even place? Can’t remember. She was so off that night, but came back and won the following year.

Last time i checked Marissa has always been a good competitor even as a teen.
This past she was focused on music, and still places top 12! Thats good for someone who wasn’t super invested or focused! From what I’ve heard recently she got her head in the game! I wouldn’t be shocked to watch her surpass the girls we have picked as “winners.” The dark course is back and we should all keep an eye on Luna I think she will shock us this year. Although shes not the Miss Alabama type of girl. She is different and could do very well on a national level. Congrats Luna, glad to see you're back in the game!

I don’t understand how y’all can sit behind a screen and tear a girl down! Out of the times I’ve talked to Marissa she’s been very respectful. She has the biggest social media following out of all girl’s competing she could do really good things with that! Lastly Marissa is new and has done nothing to upset people other than shock us! I just want to ask y’all why are we putting Marissa  down!! and supporting the “mean girl”, everyone knows who I’m talking about, and she didn’t deserve the title.
At least Marissa is nice to the other girls, congrats Marissa.

Do not try and act like some saint defending one girl to tear down another who did nothing wrong. All of the contestants were beautiful. Everyone is entitled to opinions other than ones that are not personal experiences. I have interacted multiple times with many girls who competed at UA and if I had to call one out we clearly would disagree. Maybe that is because I am not a girls family member but an outsider looking at the big picture.

Jeez, give her a second to get settled with her new title. Y'all are already bashing the young lady and she hasn't even had the crown a week. Just my two cents.

Miss Covered Bridge will be held, as it was last year, where it was combined with Miss Birmingham/Cahaba Valley/Hidden River. I don't think Lydia can compete because of that. Winner will go to regular Covered Bridge people to prep for Miss Alabama.

When you are creating content for a scholarship organization that promotes higher education, probably smart to double check any word or sentence. TikTok’s are not hard to check the spelling in, especially if the word is underlined red….. no hate, but let’s not be rude to innocent people who are just honest

I have made a mistake in posting on social media. We all have made this mistake! It take true character to thank people and make a correction. I know Marissa and not only does she work tirelessly on her CSI is, believes in this program and is very successful in college even though she struggles with a learning disability. Marissa is what this MOA is all about and total class all the way. She is what MAO IS ALL ABOUT! Marissa is them most talented lady in this program!
You there put you name on your post when you say things like this!!!! Do you have the guts to do this?

1st of all Marissa suffers from multiple learning disabilities…. Are you trying to discourage her or make her feel bad her her daily battle?
2nd for full grown adult (possibly parent) to sit behind a screen and tear a young girl down is disgusting. SHAME ON YOU.
3rd the only perfect person is our Heavenly Father and for you to hold her to a standard to not make mistakes is wrong. Take a look at yourself and how do you think God would judge you for these comments you’re making?

I’ve only talked to Marissa a few times but the girl herself had never been rude! Imagine how she feels! We want girls to stay in this organization not leave because they are being bullied!!!!
If it would’ve been any other girl to make a mistake, you wouldn’t have said anything, but because it is Marissa y’all love to be hateful.

I sincerely pray for that young girl and her heart. She is a beautiful, talented, stands for a good cause, and lastly she is just a human. For a girl who says she had felt left out because of her differences, it is sad to see that people thought this organization treat her the same way. The girl is not stupid so stop labeling her that way.
SHAME ON ALL OF YOU.

If you are (or aren't) a contestant who didn't win (or a relative/friend of one) you should seriously be looking in the mirror. Put your name in the comments where Marissa's is. Would you be okay with that? Likely not. Anyone who is bashing someone they don't even know should do the same. You are to be pitied.

A simple spelling mistake is not a big deal. She has addressed it with a post.
I have heard of other more serious mistakes and missteps on social media that hopefully will not resurface. She is a talented young lady and deserves a chance.

Marissa is a graceful and elegant young lady. I have never seen anything on her social media other than promoting this program, her music and her CSI. I have never seen her post pics of her like some of the other contestants. Marissa is always top notch. She is so talented and I think whoever is posting this stuff is so jealous they can’t see straight..

Worst pictures I’ve ever seen of Marissa posted by Southern Exposure, for all that work she’s had done it truly doesn’t show in those pictures. Also wonder what happened to the former headshot sponsor that always does the portraits.

Wow! I regularly comb through here because I Used to compete in pageants and really loved being in them and love the MA system, but y'all be some serious Mean Girls! Dang! Y'all do know all these attacks on that Marissa Luna girl just makin you all look real scared of her and insecure? Right? You don’t go around ( or have someone do it for you) running down your competition if you aren’t scared . That girl is STUNNING! She can SANG! And outside of her recent headshots not being the best I’ve seen of her , she’s the whole package. You do know where in a time where we are suppose to build up each other? Oh and I’m not sure what work she had done to her face???? Where did yall get that? Soooooo confused there. I looked at her old pics and she looks exactly the same. I mean her lips look fuller but who’s don’t these days. Yall got waaaaayyyyy too much time on your hands. Quit hatin especially when you do it anonymously.

Well, I don’t think a Miss UA singing a song on her Instagram using explicit lyrics “Kept his **** wet” is acceptable. Not for any Miss Alabama contestant.
