Top drawer advice, Sarah. Not all children are academically inclined, which is why I would never spank for bad grades of themselves.

Our oldest son - and I hate to say this - was an absolute differ at school. He lost interest and so decided not to even try. Then Irene or I spanked him, and very soundly at times. We soon found out he was more practically minded, and good with his hands. A lot of talking, a lot of encouragement, and not a few spankings helped him along. He is now happy as a landscape gardener, and very good at it too.

Ivan a, You did right in soundly spanking your son for his attitude if nothing else. But do talk with the boy about his future and be supportive. A mother’s guidance and wisdom go a long way to help a wayward teenage boy. Sarah speaks wisely.
