That's an interesting question, Crista. The short answer is that I waited until he unclenched himself before I applied the next spank.

My son sometimes tried to play the tough guy when he was spanked, so he would try hard not to cry, grit his teeth and clench his buttocks. That phase didn't last long because I always spanked his bare bottom with the back of a wooden hairbrush.

I was a slow spanker anyway, and by making him unclench himself I felt I was winning a little victory over him, especially as the hairbrush paid his bottom another visit at the moment he did it.

My whole vibe was "I have all evening if need be" and Jack never came off my lap until he was bawling like a toddler, even when he was spanked as a 12 year old. These little victories along the way just showed him who was boss and that he was not going to defeat Mum's terrible hairbrush this time either.
