When I was growing up, sometimes when Momma spanked me, I got it by hairbrush instead of by hand. The hand spankings were bad enough but the hairbrush, no thank you. She lit me up good.

I have only used a hairbrush on one of my kiddos, my oldest shortly after he turned thirteen. I've already told the story about him taking off to the Fair with his friends without telling anybody where they were going and not getting in until after 11pm. I grabbed him and hugged him first because I was scared something bad had happened to him. After I hugged him, I let him have it, I was chewing him out royally and then grabbed his arm giving him several smacks on the seat of his pants and told him to get cleaned up. After he got out of the bathroom, I went in, grabbed my hairbrush and followed him into his room. He stood, wrapped in a towel as I continued to read him the riot act. Then I yanked the towel off and put him over my knee. Usually a typical spanking is about a dozen swats by hand, but this time, it was longer and with my hairbrush. Believe me when I say that boy cried like a baby while he was getting that spanking. During the spanking, his Daddy came in and after I let him up, he grabbed him by the arm and gave him several smacks on his naked butt. He told him, "If you ever pull a stunt like that again, You'll get the belt."

Normally I believe a spanking by hand is enough. So that's the only time so far that I've used a hairbrush on one of my kids.
