Our youngest son has a tendency to be very literal in speech, and indeed in his interpretation of what others say to him. His mother, just the other day, said to the teen:

"If you don't lose that attitude, my boy, I will put you over my knee".

He can also be a bit slow to read the mood music too and argued:

"You don't put me over your knee, Mum - I bend over your lap".

I had to smile at this pedantic correction of Irene's wording. The boy came within a whisker of getting his bare bottom most royally tanned by his mother then. One hard smack to his bottom and a stern promise that was his last warning. He wisely shut up.

Knee or lap? What wording do you employ when instructing a son or daughter to assume the position for a spanking?
