I agree with Mama.

Yes, I am one that starts with her hand and goes to an implement, there are a few reasons, to me a hand spanking is most important, a bonding time, then when I go to my brush I can let the brush to the work and rest my hand especially if spanking more than one at a time. Older children reach a point where a hand spanking alone is not enough. Another is ‘tradition’ our mom and grandmother were hairbrush only spankers. But I knew from 13 years old I would be, wanted to spank with my hand.

To me, my belief on a "hand-spanking" I've always thought the skin-to-skin contact really makes the spanking more of a nurturing experience, a bonding time. To me there is nothing better, more maternal than a mom's, dad’s too or sitter’s hand being applied firmly across a child's bare bottom. I have always loved to be able to feel my hand on their bare bottom. This is also why I put the one I will spank over my lap and always will no matter their age.

Some need an implement because their hands as the child grows and gets older aren't enough to do the job required, so they add or just use an implement only. Some moms forgo the hand portion and go right to the ‘main course’ so to speak with their implement but still get the hand time in while rubbing the bottom either before, during or after, some do all three.
