I agree that it would have been nice if AJ would have been able to get through his birthday party without needing to be spanked, but we all know that what would be nice and what needs to happen don’t always align. AJ and Julian gave you no choice. Their behavior was a clear violation of the rules set down for their own safety, and the safety of others. Unfortunately, they needed to be soundly spanked, and spanked on their bare bottoms. Seven and eight year old boys need to be spanked regularly to keep them sweet. For you, is eight the age at which a boy’s bare bottom is upgraded to the wooden hairbrush, and is that why AJ still got the spoon? Personally, I don’t think there is much of a difference between a wooden spoon spanking and a wooden hairbrush spanking, especially if either one of them is applied to an upturned bare posterior. I think a wooden spoon can make a bare bottomed boy howl just as loudly as a wooden hairbrush can. With either one, the intensity can be adjusted to suit the needs of the situation. Growing up, Mom’s wooden spoon often left my sisters and I with bruised bare bottoms more often than her wooden hairbrush did. Not that Mom’s wooden hairbrush didn’t, but the broader surface of Mom’s hairbrush meant that the impact was more spread out, versus Mom’s spoon which put all of its power into a smaller, more concentrated area. For me, it’s hard to deny the agonizing sting of the spoon head landing on a smaller patch of bare skin. Howling is guaranteed.
