Normally, I don't spank my kids if I'm angry or really upset, because I don't want to be out of control. This was a different situation. With the storms we have had over the last couple of months, there has been a lot of flooding in several states and I had earlier heard of a little boy in another state, I think Kentucky, who was pulled under when he was crossing a ditch and drowning. When I saw my son and his friend in the water and it rushing like it was, I ran to the creek and yelled for them to get out and then when I saw my son slip the only thing I thought was my baby boy is going to drown. So I was not in my right mind when I got them out of the water and spanked them both.

Fran was wonderful! She wasn't upset with me for spanking her son, and she sat me down and comforted me and got me to calm down. Because I was a mess. Even though she did finally manage to talk me down, I was still pretty shaken. I didn't realize I had left my shoes by the side of the creek until I looked down when I had started getting ready to fix dinner and saw I was barefooted and my feet and legs were still covered in mud. It's something I never want to live through again.

My husband gave our son a good spanking when he found out what happened and promised to take the belt to him if he ever did it again. I think after getting spanked twice in one afternoon, he will think twice about wading in a flooded creek.
