I admire your approach. In fact, my desire is to emulate it.

In today’s age, many would consider you to be old-fashioned, but in my opinion that is a compliment. I appreciate your unwavering approach to discipline. Not all spankings need to be severe, but not all spanking DON’T need to be severe either. There is a time and a place for going beyond a red bottom and spanking long and hard and until the child’s posterior is bruised and blistered. Such a spanking would leave the miscreant howling and flailing lividly, but sometimes such a spanking is needed. Hopefully, such spankings are few and far between, but kids should know that mom, or grandma, will spank according to the crime, and sometimes that means their bare bottoms will bear war wounds for a week.

I get the impression that I am close in age to your children. You and my mother would have been good friends as she approached discipline exactly like you did, and still do. Most moms in the neighborhood where I grew up would, by today’s standards, be considered old-fashioned at the very least.

Now that I have three lovely step-children, I wonder if my mother will ever babysit them for a day. I suspect she will. I have no doubt she will expect spanking privileges or she might deny the request.
