Amanda J,

Your balanced approach to spanking seems to be steering your boys in the right direction. I bet a photo of you with your boys would show everyone with big, happy smiles. As you commented in another message, you spank with love. That is so important, and even though sometimes those spankings need to be full on kicking, screaming, howling, bare bottom blisterings that leave the boys' bare butts purple for days, the boys know that you spanked them that way because they earned them and deserved such.

Spanking down the backs of the thighs as far as your hand or hairbrush is wide, seems adequate. I can understand why some moms go a little further down, but the way you do it seems reasonable. As you say, your boys' howling gets ratcheted up a few notches when you spank those bare sweet spots, but that's the whole point. If 95% of your swats go to the boys' naked buttocks, and 5% to their bare upper thighs, your boys aren't missing out anything. When moms spank their children, they should do it unsparingly. The hairbrush shouldn't stop doing its work until the spanking has reached his full effectiveness.
