When we first met it was during the summer holidays and we were both barefoot on a beach ... so it was quite natural, though we haven't imagined they would walk barefoot in winter as they do now! Aren't the long eventful and adventurous barefoot outdoor summers a wonderful romantic aspect of childhood?

It's not like we planned every aspect of childhood and youth for them when they were born, but by observing them in their first years we found they all used their feet a lot even long before they walked, almost like another set of hands. As they learned to walk they did it a lot easier without socks or shoes, and since we have a pretty safe and clean neighbourhood without much debris or thorns we let them walk barefoot outside pretty much from the beginning.

During the first years we bought them socks and shoes in autumn, though seeing they all got rid of them at the first opportunity ... at some point we talked about how their circulation gets stronger when they're outside barefoot in the cold, and in the end this led to never wanting any footwear any more. Now we're at the point that none of us even keep track of their foot sizes any more.
