Subject: The don'ts of barefoot parenting

Don't buy your child footed onesies, pantyhose or anything that covers the feet and is difficult to take off. Whatever they wear should go well with bare feet.
Don't put anything on their feet routinely as you get them dressed (as a baby).
Don't store any footwear in a child's room. If anything it's for going outside in winter and then it's more practical to keep it with the gloves etc. near the exit door.
Don't ever call a child's feet smelly (they won't get that way when bare).
Don't accuse a child of getting dirty feet (you can wash them as they get home or ask them to wash them as they grow older).
Don't provide any footwear unless the child asks for it when it's too cold to go barefoot. (Ok I'll make an exception there, when it's freezing and feet would get frozen stiff ... a young baby might not notice if feet go numb.)
Don't question a child's decision to go barefoot even in situations when you wouldn't as a parent (again with the exception of freezing temperatures that can actually lead to frostbite).
Don't give your children the idea they are doing anything wrong by deciding to remain barefoot in any situation.
Don't make your children ashamed of their bare feet.

Can you think of any more? As you see I'm just doing whatever I can to prevent at a young age what seems to be all too common: grown adults who don't dare to go barefoot for fear of what others might say ...
