I have similar experience, growing up I was just never allowed footwear and my mom made sure there was never any for me. There was a time where I saw everyone else at school with shoes and would ask her but she never allowed it. Now I’m glad though and thankful for her, im barefoot in shorts year round as the weather is nice and warm, and I wear my dirty soles like a badge of honor. My mom often checks my soles to see how dirty they are and make sure I’ve been barefoot and lively.
