Subject: Golden autumn

Hello all, it's been a while so here's a sign of life from us.

We're at the end of another barefoot summer, for my three children of 11 to 15 years it's another barefoot autumn, they're all looking forward to rustling their toes in the leaves as they have done for years. Though as the temperatures cool down it's rare to see any others, as we did at a variety of occasions in summer when they inspired other kids to do likewise and try it without footwear.

Some who have posted here said they weren't given a choice, their parents decided for them they had to go barefoot. We didn't do it that way, maybe in an area with cold winters parents could get into trouble for not providing footwear in case it's needed ... going barefoot, while wholeheartedly supported by us without exception, should be a choice and was the preferred option of all three who also supported each other (building up the confidence to go barefoot where they would be the only ones doing so). It's also a wonderful thing the brothers and their sister have in common. And I think a marvellous ability (superpower? not really, it's a potential rooted in all of us) to go everywhere on naked soles without giving it a further thought (while still giving the ground enough attention at all times to avoid painful missteps).

As a sidenote it's also so easy for parents when children are barefoot all the time. No need to constantly track foot sizes, to acquire, wash, repair and replace shoes and socks of various types throughout the seasons, no waiting time for shoelaces to be tied, no stumbling over a mess of dirty socks and shoes. They're always ready for departure (unless doing something important) and when getting home, feet are quickly washed however necessary.

I still check their feet regularly and I'm glad to report there's been no injury this year. Just smooth shiny leather pads, high soft arches, perfectly spaced toes, a soft tan on top. Yes I like all their feet, they look good and it's impressive what they're capable of, I also tell them, it's good when they are proud of their feet.

The only thing changing at the end of summer, they're wearing long pants again as they go out in the morning. We recently bought them new jeans as they've grown out their old wardrobe, of course with bare feet in mind so the legs go to the ankle without touching the ground.

I wish you all a golden autumn!
