Subject: Snow Day

Last week we woke up to our first snowfall of the season – thick, fluffy, and still coming down. The weather app confirmed what the text from the school later did: snow day! The girls were practically buzzing with excitement.

Before I could even suggest hot chocolate or a lazy morning, they were already bundling themselves into warm coats, hats, and scarves… but of course, no shoes or socks. Out they went, barefoot in the fresh snow, laughing and squealing at the cold crunch under their feet.

They spent the next hour building a snowman, throwing snowballs and chasing each other around the yard. Their cheeks were pink, their hair dusted with flakes, and their feet… somehow unfazed by the cold. I kept checking to make sure they were okay, but they were grinning from ear to ear.

When they finally came back in, we wrapped up with mugs of hot chocolate and blankets on the couch. They said the snow felt “tingly and magical” on their soles, and you know what? I think they’re right.

It’s amazing watching them embrace life so fully and naturally. I love that they find joy and freedom in being barefoot, even in the snow. It’s a beautiful reminder that sometimes the simplest pleasures – like feeling the world directly under your feet – are the most memorable.
