I absolutely agree. In fact, every book on child photography I've read published since 2000 says that when posing kids, they should always be barefoot. Here's one of many examples:

https://books.google.com/books?id=ipMsDQAAQBAJ&pg=PA124&lpg=PA124&dq=%22Kids+feet+are+cute%22&source=bl&ots=wnWGbCB6An&sig=ACfU3U15yUWP1hbWwV-hinpiDbZK4LNaVA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjw3JahuIbsAhW4CTQIHa4UAv8Q6AEwEXoECAYQAQ#v=onepage&q=%22Kids%20feet%20are%20cute%22&f=false

There are several reasons for this, such as shoes dating the photograph, but the prominent one is that little kid piggies are just plain cute - especially if you're capturing the bottoms of their feet! Parents have fond memories of playing "This little piggy"and other games with an image of a child's bare feet. Shoes just can't compete.
