Some are a little shy to take off shoes and socks and bare their soft pale little feet but our kids encourage them to dare going out barefoot with them. I think they do a fantastic job of helping others get rid of their inhibitions!
Such occasions also allow to compare: All four of our children have suntanned feet with nicely splayed (and öften wiggly) toes, tough but not rough soles, they all developed nice arches by now and have muscular legs. Compared to that the feet of others who usually wear shoes and socks seem slimmer, softer, paler and certainly not as strong. Colder to the touch as well.
When it comes to the best friends they usually hang out with, I see them slip off their shoes pretty soon, at least on nice warm days.
