I'm just coming from my younger sister's wedding, it was quite an eventful day as she and her husband wanted to do it all together when the guests were there.
It started in the morning with the official wedding at town hall, taking about an hour, followed by a photo session in front.
After that, a lunch was booked at a nearby restaurant, and the church wedding took place in the afternoon.
For the dinner and dance we went to another restaurant, fortunately it was all not far from each other. Advantage of living in a small town: No need to worry about transportation issues, just walk from one place to the next ... we were lucky it didn't rain!
Both families together, we were 32 people including 9 children, not counting officials from the city and church.
As announced, and as welcomed by the bride and groom, my children were barefoot throughout the festivities.
They were so excited and so cute! As we ate outside on the warm restaurant terrace at noon, the younger three of the other family's children decided to join ours and left their shoes under the table. They put them back on for the way to church but once we were at the final place for the evening, the shoes and socks of these three found their place at the wardrobe as they remained barefoot for the dinner and the following party.
Once the dance started, my sister, who had bravely worn her high heeled sandals together with her wedding dress (she's a bit conservative in that regard ...) decided to finally slip them off and danced barefoot. My wife and me followed immediately, so did the rest of the children and two more ladies from my generation, finally the groom as well! In the end the dance was a wonderfully informal affair with plenty of happy young and older bare feet (and some pantyhosed ladies who found it too cumbersome to get rid of that final layer of fabric under their soles). My children were all happy and cheerful throughout and it seems like they also had a nice effect on my brother in law's nieces and nephews as they socialized; I take it as a good sign whenever other kids kick off their shoes after meeting ours!
We didn't bother to put our shoes back on for the short way home. Our children once more found that doing it all barefoot was the right thing to do. Once home we found that dancing on the wax-polished parquet dance floor had given our darkened soles a lovely smooth shine ... just one of plenty of wonderful memories of a day designed to be unforgettable.
