The wonderful thing is that walking barefoot improves circulation. Since I regularly walk barefoot with Rita I never get cold feet even when sitting still.

I will knit her legwarmers for next winter that keep her cozy warm when she goes out in cold weather. There are many signs a child is generally warm enough, also it is obvious to me that young children are more open to their senses and will say so if anything is not allright. Having a better developed heart and muscles will also help her to keep her feet warm even better than last year where I already carried her with bare hands and feet in cold weather.

I just think that when toes go numb, it takes a certain stage in cognitive development to interpret that right and go back into the warm. We're not taking any foolish risks of frostbite, just gently approaching the limits.

When it's really cold there's still the option of socks or skinners but we'll see next winter if that's really needed.
