We are lucky with our school ... there's nothing in the rules. Since outside shoes aren't permitted in classrooms, others are usually in slippers or socks but in summer it's not uncommon to see bare feet. Now that it's colder our children are the only ones barefoot in school.

As noted ... there wasn't any kind of ceremony of getting rid of shoes, we just noticed that last year's shoes didn't fit and decided to skip this year's autumn shoe shopping round. Together with the promise that if they need it they will be provided with well-fitting and flexible footwear to insulate from deep frost, but if they don't we won't bother them with it.

And now I notice that I know each child's feet very well, I could easily identify anyone just by looking at any part of the feet because I frequently check them for any sign of injury, to observe their increasingly tougher pads, to give them a good foot massage when we sit together in the evening, or after a long city walk just to admire the black footprints standing out against the pale arches before they go scrub them clean. I just completely lost track of whatever shoe size any of them would need now!
